#1 Gmail Goofup

The very first place is taken by Google (my Dream Company) as this is not really a goof up, just a point that it is not correct for a few moments. Ok let me tell me what it is? But first let me tell you that this is hard to observe for Broadband users but easy to observe for users who doesn’t have a fast connection.

On Gmail login screen, you see a counter which keeps on increasing slowly and telling that how much space is being offered by Gmail to each account. As of now Gmail provides 7GB+ of storage space but the counter is displayed wrong even if the system date is correct while the page is loading. As soon as the page loads completely, the counter shows the correct value. Can’t they think of something innovative in this? heh.

#2 AirTel SMS Goofup

I use AirTel Mobile Office service to connect to internet in my hostel. Before I began using their MO (GPRS) service and even for others who still doesn’t, they never sent a promotional message about MO but when I started using MO, then every month I would get a message from AirTel saying that “You can subscribe to AirTel Mobile Office and get internet connectivity for just Rs.395″. Now isn’t this something that I am already using. The point is that they don’t message such promotional messages to a user who is not using MO service. Lack of management skills. heh

#3 Nokia 3230 Goofup

I was browsing the files on the read only memory of my Nokia 3230 when i noticed a file named No_Sound.wav. Out of curiosity, I opened that file and there it just makes a lil noise which was very familiar and then I realized its the same sound which gets played when I switch tracks in Real player (of my Nokia 3230) and when I power ON the device. Now whats the point of having such a file which is played when there should be no sound. Weird? Listen to that file yourself. Download No_Sound.Wav

I have seen Sify (my ISP) going nuts earlier and here it goes again. Earlier it gave me record breaking insane speeds of 17MBps and now I am using my account after my account has expired. I am writing this post right now when my subscription has already ended.

I am on a 64Kbps net connection and it was supposed to expire on October 11, 2008 at 00:00AM and it did. Yes, the internet stop working at midnight but today on October 12, 2008 I am able to login again and able to connect to internet and blog about it. I know this may be only for a day or two but still Sify Client is unreliable as always. Have your say in the comments.

Being an engineering student, several ideas come into my mind, all at the same time. This post is the real scenario that you can see in my college campus. Coming straight to the article, I give you 5+1 Ways of promoting your Blog / Site / Brand name in your college.

#1 Graffiti

• Use graffiti to brand yourself. Our college has a graffiti wall which is redesigned every year on fest. I will be branding myself this year.
• If you are really good at hand (drawing), go create a graffiti art anywhere you would like to. Be it a desk, board, table anywhere in your wild imagination.

# 2 Custom designed T-shirt

• Why not have a wear a custom T-shirt with your brand name or logo. I will soon be ordering one.
• You can gift such apparel to your friends so that you get more publicity.

# 3 Girls hostel

• You don’t have to break into Girls hostel for this (Yes, In our college boys are not allowed to enter girl’s hostel )
• A good and a very true quote : Fastest mean of communication – Women. Need faster? Tell her not to tell anyone.
• Do it your way, My Brand “Ashfame” is being promoted in girl’s hostel. Ask your friend to write your Brand name on Wall or Mirror or anywhere that has good visibility. Try it. It had done wonders for me.

# 4 Use your brand name more than your own name

• My name is Ashfame Ashish Saini. I am in a habit of this.
• Promote when you are writing program in Labs.

  

• Use Brand name for bluetooth name of your mobile, logo as your wallpaper on mobile and tell your friends to save your cell number by your Brand name. This is not going to give you any SEO advantage but trust me it becomes viral.
• Don’t even leave your stationery. Just leave your project reports.

  

• Burn disks & create folders by Brand name.

  

• Don’t spare Social networking sites. Check my Orkut profile.

  

I can go on this, beyond the scope of article. So just a simple advice for you. Use your wildest imagination.

# 5 Be a Decent, Helpful & Influential personality

• Help fellow mates on tech issues.
• Carry a cool attitude (Explain even the smallest thing in detail considering your listeners as noobs)
• It gives a very good feeling when someone ask for help and advice. Even if you don’t have much info about that topic, ask for time and do some research on the subject. This enables you to help others and also learn many things yourself.

# 6 WARNING -> Hack College or University Site

• Don’t attempt to try this one if you don’t know what you are going to attempt. This thing can really get you in trouble. I am mentioning it just for the sake of mentioning it.
• Leave a tag of your Brand after you have hacked the institution’s site.
• Got Guts? Got Brains? Still need anything else?…huh?

Overview

The object of Minesweeper is to locate all the mines as quickly as possible without uncovering any of them. If you uncover a mine, you lose the game

Strategies and Tips

• If you are uncertain about a square, right-click it twice to mark it with a question mark (?). Later, you can either mark the square as a mine or remove the markings by right-clicking the square again once or twice.
• If you have marked all the mines around a numbered square, you can uncover the remaining squares around it by clicking the numbered square with the left and right mouse buttons simultaneously. If not all mines surrounding the numbered square have been marked, the remaining covered or unmarked squares will appear to be depressed (or flash) when the numbered square is clicked with both buttons simultaneously.
• Look for common patterns in numbers, which often indicate a corresponding pattern of mines. For example, the pattern 2-3-2 at the edge of a group of uncovered squares indicates a row of three mines next to the three numbers.
