Download Yahoo messenger directly instead of Online installer

If you have downloaded yahoo messenger, you must be aware of the fact that you can’t download Yahoo messenger directly. When you download it, you actually download a Online installer which installs the Yahoo messenger online. And you don’t have a copy of setup too. While having a chat discussion with Nspeaks (a guy who always have a answer of my queries), he told me about this little trick that allows me to download the messenger directly without the need of downloading that crappy online installer.

The trick is to add y before the filename of the online installer in the url and you can directly download the full messenger setup. When you click Download Yahoo Messenger,download starts and you have this in the page:

yahoo_download_link

Right Click on click here to copy the link and this is your URL for online installer.

For Yahoo messenger 8:

Link for downloading that online installer is http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/msgr8us.exe and if you add y in the filename and then paste it in the address bar, it is the direct download link for the full setup of messenger. Your link now looks like http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/ymsgr8us.exe

For Yahoo messenger 9 Beta:

Link for downloading that online installer is http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr9/us/msgr9us.exe and if you add y in the filename and then paste it in the address bar, it is the direct download link for the full setup of messenger. Your link now looks like http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr9/us/ymsgr9us.exe

    Thanks for sharing that, this was a Godsend I tell you. I can’t tell you how much trouble I had with that other thing, utterly useless.

    Thankyou for the direct download, my connection is less than 1/2 standard modem. The normal installation always ‘froze’. This download took about 2 hours, but the installation only took a moment. :smile: THANKYOU :grin:

    Had to replace my hardrive, got everything back up and running, went to download yahoo messenger from the site and would only let me get to 50% tryed for 3 hrs gave up and found your site. works great thanks a bunch

    Ok my hard drive crashed 2 days ago and I’ve tried several different websites that had a “solution” for why I couldn’t download. I’m in the process of trying this link right now. I’ll let ya know what happens.

    Be more descriptive in your problems. You can try a alternate client to use yahoo service or the web based version

    i hav the setups of y msngr 8 and 9 but they get corrupted automatically after installation. when i click on desktop icon it gives the error “application failed to initialize click ok terminate the program.
