How to set firefox not to automatically update itself?

firefox

Firefox new versions are released over time and it keeps on checking for updates by default. It is recommended to keep this setting as it is because many security issues are also fixed in newer releases but it can be trouble some for dial up users. Moreover if you need to reinstall it, you would need to download the latest setup from internet and then install it. This post is specially for users who are low on bandwidth (in countries like India). There is a option of switching off this automatic update of firefox so that users can manually download the latest version at their convenience. In this way they will also have the setup of the latest version, in case they need to reinstall it.

Step # 1 From the menu select Tools > Options.

firefox_update_settings_1

Step # 2 Under the Advance tab, select Update.

Step # 3 Either you can switch off to check for updates of firefox or you can choose “Ask me what I want to do”. I recommend the later so that users don’t have to check for updates regularly, they will be notified once a newer version is released.

If you are a dial up user, do tell me how you manage things which has high bandwidth requirement.
